Surat: Shefali Jogani is no ordinary girl as she represents the indefatigable spirit of women. Shefali suffers disability since birth and can't move her hands, but this 16-year-old girl was there to appear in the first paper of her class X board examinations at a centre in Navsari district on Tuesday. Shefali sat on the floor instead of a bench and wrote with her foot the paper on what better day than the International Women's Day on March 8.

She learnt to write with her leg and never opts for a writer. "I have this problem since birth and learnt to live with it. I challenge my disability by not letting it come in my way to be successful," a confident Shefali, who studies in a municipal school at Santadevi Road, said.
Shefali lost her father at an early age and mother was forced by circumstances to work as a domestic help. She wants to become independent in life and master some special skills after scoring goods marks in class X. She plans to enrol at a special training centre for disabled persons in Vadodara. She secured second class in class IX examinations and is aiming for a first class in class X.

"If I clear my class X examinations with good marks then my mother will send me to the training institute for the disabled persons. I want to study there and start earning for myself. I don't want to be dependent on anyone for life," said Shefali, a resident of Maruti Nagar in Vijalpore in Navsari.

This is why she didn't ask for a writer before the examinations. "I have learnt writing with my foot and don't want to become dependent on anyone because of my disability," she added.

Many students were motivated seeing Shefali write her examinations with her foot. This infused them with confidence and lifted everyone's spirits in the centre.
